Witness the installation of the Sami Flag at the lodge, listen to stories of Sandra’s experiences in the Norwegian Government & her life as a Sami.
Wednesday, August 4, 6:30 p.m., (Social); Program at 7:00pm, Leif Erikson Lodge, 2245 NW 57th, Ballard, Sandra Andersen Eira, a representative of the Sami Parliament in Norway, will help to install the lodge’s new Sami flag and talk about her experiences in the Norwegian Government and her life as a Sami.
Ms. Eira is from Northern Norway in Finnmark, an hour south of the North Cape. Her family consists of both fishermen and, reindeer herders, a tradition dating back thousands of years. As a Sami Parliamentarian, she is involved with the energy, transport and infrastructure, along with agriculture and other industries. Fisheries and marine affairs are her main focus.
Besides being a Parliamentarian, Sandra Eira, is captain of a commercial fishing vessel where they fish mostly in the Barents Sea. Only one percent of woman serve as captains of a commercial fishing vessel. She is also involved with various media projects and was featured in a documentary “Sea Sisters” a film about her experiences as a captain in a mainly male field.
Leif Erikson Lodge invites you to meet this very talented and interesting representative of the Sami Parliament. There will be time for questions from the audience.
