Conversation with Manuel Pastor: Equity, Prosperity & Seattle’s Future

December 7, 2015 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm

Level 1 – Microsoft Auditorium

Manuel Pastor will look at the demographic changes rippling throughout the nation and how they play out in Seattle.
With a thriving economy that nonetheless fails to reach all, economic inequality has risen in Seattle, with a significant growth in high-tech wealth driving low-income residents to the suburbs.

Professor Manuel Pastor will look at the demographic changes rippling throughout the nation and consider how they play out in Seattle, focusing not only on past trends and future projections, but also why it is that embracing inclusion is the actual key to securing sustainable economic growth.

Suggesting that more work is needed to fortify the economy and more effectively shape our growth, Pastor will highlight the positive role of civic institutions to both develop and link neighborhoods across the region to craft a new American future.

Pastor will be joined for a panel discussion with Ubax Gardheere (South Communities Organizing for Racial / Regional Equity, Puget Sound Sage) and Diane Sugimura (Director, Department of Planning and Development). Our moderator will be Nora Liu (Community Development, Department of Planning and Development).

Co-presented with:
Seattle Department of Planning and Development
Seattle Planning Commission
Seattle Office for Civil Rights
Latino Community Fund
Northwest African American Museum
