Hmong New Year Festival
November 7, 2015 @ 10:00 am - 5:00 pm
Join us for our annual Hmong New Year celebration at the Seattle Center Armory on November 7, 2015 from 10:00am-5:00pm! 2015 is an important year as it marks the 40th year that the Hmong people have been in the United States of America. As we go into the new year, we want to honor the 40 years we have been in America, hence our theme this year is “40 Years in America.” We will be featuring a gallery of stories and photos from present-day veterans who served in the Secret War of Laos. Not everyone knows who the Hmong people are and the extent of our involvement in the Secret War of Laos and what it meant for us. This celebration will serve as a traditional honoring of the new year, but also remembrance of the years that have passed. Come learn more about the Hmong people!
To supplement the theme, we have asked the Hmong community to submit “Then” and “Now” photos, which include first photos of when Hmong families arrived in America to present day photos.
In addition, we will be showcasing a video – “40 Voices: We Are Hmong,” a collection of videos from 40 Hmong individuals speaking about what it means to be Hmong, aspects of appreciation for the culture, and offering a perspective on how to improve the community. The video will be playing in the 3rd floor Armory gallery throughout the day.
